A quality Creep feeder is essential for making sure your younger animals get the nutrients they need. The best feeding environment for calves is one away from the adults and these feeders are designed to provide just that. The proper creep feeder will have your calves ready for market sooner and in high quality condition.

The design uses a outer ‘cage’ to keep adults from being able to access the feed trough area. The cage has outer bars that are spaced so calves and smaller animals can enter but larger animals cannot. They also use an adjustable horizontal entry bar that can be moved up as the animal grows. The cows and larger animals aren’t able to fit underneath so only the young ones can enter.

Once through the entry area, the calves are free to eat the provided minerals in the trough free from the larger animals. The ability to eat in a stress-free area allows them to consume minerals and supplements for maximum healthy weight gains.

These feeders are built to have your calves ready for market sooner and in higher quality condition. They also are used to provide health supplements to smaller animals in need of specific feed or supplements.

Single Sided Creep Feeders

The most common design has a single side for feeding. It allows the feeder to be filled from outside the guarded feeding area. That may not seem like a big deal but when you’re trying to fill it or any feeder, your rambunctious eaters can get carried away and step all over you. It’s far better to fill from outside the trough area to prevent any accidental injuries to you or your calves.

This style has holding capacities of 500 all the way up to 1,500 pounds.

  

Double-side Creep Feeders

These are designed to feed large groups of animals and have much larger capacities than the single-sided design. These larger capacities range from 1,200 to 3,000 pounds!

The extra size and capacity means you don’t have to fill the feeder as often if used for smaller groups. It also means you can easily feeder those large herds without repeated fillings.

The double-side build means there’s twice the feeding space available as animals can use both sides. The two individual troughs are both fed by the center storage area. This is great for not only large groups but can also be used in a fence-line to feed two separate pastures or pens at once.

     

Deer Feeders

Nutrition is very important for calves, sheep, goats as well as deer. Feeding a herd of cattle in pasture can be a time consuming task. Maintaining a feeding system into troughs can be manually challenging. The simplest and safest means of feeding is to lay it directly on the ground. That’s what the Range Cube Feeder is designed for.

Pasture Feeding

Feeding in the pasture, directly on the ground, is the absolute easiest method for getting food to your livestock. It’s not as simple as it sounds and it does come with risks and logistical issues.

Laying down grain can risky. If you’re not in a vehicle, you are exposing yourself to being rushed by your cattle. Overeager to eat, they can inadvertently trample anything between them and the food, even yourself.

The safest method of getting the grain to your livestock is from the safety and comfort of a vehicle and that’s what the Range Cube Feeder is designed for.

Range Cube Feeder Design

Hastings has built a cattle feeder that mounts to the back of a light truck. It allows you to dispense your feed from the safety and comfort of the cab of your truck.

The feed bin is welded with angle iron for heavy-duty support throughout. The 18 gauge galvanized steel construction will fend off moisture and rusting. The lid protects the large fill opening that measures 16″ x 33″ for quick filling.

The feeder mounts to the back of a flatbed truck and will dispense almost anything. The dispenser opening measures 10″ wide and 5″ tall to accommodate most cubes, wafers and pellets.

The large 36″ L x 35″ W x 36″ H feeder holds 500 pounds at a time and makes short work of dispensing. Once full, drive out to your pasture and begin your feed line.

The spring loaded vertical feed chute door controls the feed flow. A control rope runs from the pulley on the top of the door the cab of your truck. To being releasing feed, pull the rope to the flow rate you desire. The feed will flow down the chute and onto the ground for consumption.

The feeder comes with a straight chute that dispenses off the back center of the truck. It measures 10″ W x 24″ L.

There is an optional off-set chute available if you’d like to release into a tire track. The offset chute has a 6″ adjustment to move the dispensing point to the side. This is extremely useful if feeding in the snow. The truck tire track creates a natural trough in the ground after it compresses the snow. This makes it easy for livestock to access and eat.

Hog Feeders

One of the largest expenses of raising hogs is the money spent on feed. Wasted feed destroys profits and creates a mess too. On-demand feeders make your hogs ask to be fed before any food is released. It will only dispense when the wheel is turned to help eliminate waste and prevents food from sitting in the trough where it can be turned into ‘play-waste’ as it gets knocked around.

The troughs have feeder bars with paddles on them. Your animals quickly learn to nudge the bars and turn the paddles through the trough to release the food. As the feed bars turn, the paddles sweep along the bottom of the trough. It sounds too good to be true, but the hogs actually clean the trough they are eating from!

Pig Feeders

For the largest weight gains, food should be present at all times. This ensures they establish healthy eating habits and necessary early weight gains but can also lead to a lot of waste.

Pig to Hog Feeder

Osborne makes a unique feeder that automatically converts from a gravity feed to an on-demand feeder. The mechanical conversion takes place when the pigs learn on their own to move the paddles in the bottom of the trough. As the wheel turns, the individual vents slide shut and require movement to dispense food in the future.

The automatic conversion needs no attention as it converts automatically.  Not only are the pigs cleaning the trough by turning the feed wheel paddles, but they’re also converting the feeder to a gravity flow system automatically.

Having gravity replenish the trough is a great way to make sure they can eat at all times and the conversion to on-demands helps eliminate waste when they’re older.
