Benefits of a Bottom Slide Valve

Grain storage is a critical aspect of agricultural and livestock feeding operations, and the efficiency of managing stored grain can significantly impact overall productivity. One key innovation that has proven to be immensely helpful in this regard is the incorporation of bottom-mounted side valves on grain bins.

The bottom-mounted side valve is a strategic addition that simplifies the storage and release of grain, providing farmers and ranchers with a reliable and efficient solution for controlled dispensing from bulk bins. Here are a few reasons why these valves are a necessity when working with large quantities of grain or feed:

  • Uniform Flow Control: The placement of the valve at the bottom of the grain bin allows for a controlled and uniform flow of grain during both storage and release. This ensures an even release of grain and can prevent issues such as uneven flow and spillage.
  • Easy Access for Cleaning: Cleaning out a grain bin is a necessary and routine task, and the bottom-mounted side valve makes this process significantly easier. With the valve positioned at the bottom, accessing and cleaning the entire storage area becomes a straightforward job, reducing the risk of contamination and promoting grain quality.
  • Optimized Gravity Flow: The gravitational pull plays a crucial role in the flow of grain, and bottom-mounted side valves leverage this force to optimize the release process. This results in a smoother, more efficient flow that minimizes the need for additional mechanical assistance.
  • Enhanced Safety: Safety is paramount in agricultural settings, and bottom-mounted side valves contribute to a safer working environment. The design minimizes the need for climbing and handling heavy equipment at elevated positions, reducing the risk of accidents during grain handling.

You could cut your hopper up higher until you reach a diameter of 25", then install the Collar Adapter to bring it down to the 16-inch diameter needed for the Slide Valve.

Yes, it's designed for easy hand operation, but you may prefer the side-mounted slide valve (click here). It's easy to install and is designed for filling 5-gallon buckets and wheel barrels from the side of the hopper rather than underneath.

Yes, the slide valve is designed to operate freely when the bin is full. Simply slide open and closed by hand.

You would have to purchase a 25" to 16" Collar Adapter, and then attach this slide valve. You would have to take off the 28" boot top plate that is on the bin now. The slide valve measures 16" x 16".
