Bottomless Stock Tanks

These very large tanks offer an efficient means of providing water to large herds of livestock and are especially useful for providing a water source in remote areas. They're available in sizes as small as 15' in diameter with a 2,668-gallon capacity and go all the way up to the large 27' diameter, 11,486-gallon tank. They make the ultimate large livestock waterer, and when coupled with a water float, they can stay full with no effort at all!

The traditional galvanized bottomless stock tanks are available in a 10 or 12-gauge material, and Sioux Steel even offers bottomless stock tank liners for use with their tanks. Make sure your animals have a steady supply of fresh water at all times with one of these large tanks for your operation!

If you're looking for something a little smaller, please check out all our traditional Galvanized Stock Tanks here!

Questions to Consider Before Buying a Bottomless Stock Tank

Below are a few considerations that should be addressed when selecting a tank. Note that these large tanks are also available with liners if desired, and make installation a breeze!

When considering the purchase of a bottomless stock tank for your livestock, there are several important questions you should ask yourself. First, think about the size you need. How many animals will be using the tank, and what are their average sizes and breeds? Next, consider the frost line in your area. Do you need to install the tank below that line to prevent freezing in winter, and what’s the recommended depth for installation locally?

It’s also crucial to evaluate the material quality. Is the tank made from durable materials that can withstand harsh weather conditions? Are they resistant to rust and corrosion? Installation is another key aspect. What tools or equipment will you need, and is professional installation recommended?

Maintenance is essential too. How easy will it be to clean and maintain the tank? Are there specific practices you should follow? Also, think about your water supply source. How will the tank be filled, and is there a reliable water supply available nearby?

Contamination prevention is vital as well. Does the design of the bottomless stock tank help keep debris, manure, and other contaminants out of the water? How high is the tank above the ground to minimize these risks? Don’t forget to consider temperature management—how does the tank handle water temperature in both summer and winter? Will the water stay cool during hot months and warm during cold ones?

Additionally, look into any extra features. Does the tank offer usability enhancements like an overflow drain or easy access for cleaning? Are there accessories available, such as heaters or filters? Cost and warranty are important too—what’s the price, and does the manufacturer provide any warranty or guarantee?

Lastly, check for user experiences. Are there reviews or testimonials from other livestock owners who have used this type of tank? What recommendations do they have based on their experiences? Overall, consider how a bottomless stock tank will fit into your livestock management plan. Does it align with your current strategies, and will it improve your efficiency in providing water for your animals? By addressing these questions, you'll be well-equipped to make an informed decision.
