Heat Pads
Pig Heating Pads
Heating pads provide a warm, comfortable surface for growing hogs and pigs. These durable heat pads are water-tight and provide an evenly heated surface below the animal. They don't have the dangers that heating lamps create and are much more energy efficient. With a heating pad, you're creating heat at the surface to supply warmth directly to those who need it. It doesn't first heat the surrounding air, trying to then warm the hogs or pigs. No broken bulbs or fire hazards that it creates with a heating pad.
The fiberglass-reinforced plastic composite material is flame-retardant and easy to clean. They have a built-in tread surface for secure footing, and the evenly heated pad keeps piglets from 'grouping' and huddling near your sow for warmth.
These durable pads are built to create heat for piglets and create a warm area for them to lie and rest. When active, the pads will stay approximately 30-35 degrees above the surrounding air temperature for farrowing, while the nursery pads will maintain about 20-25 degrees above the air temperatures.
Piglet Heating Pads
Our piglet heating pads are made from composite materials with fiberglass-reinforced plastic, easy to remove and clean at regular intervals. Plus, the material is flame-retardant, keeping your piglets as well as your sows and barn safe from fire danger.
Our pig heat pads are made with a specially textured tread surface that creates a non-slip environment in your barn. Plus, the pads are heated evenly throughout, preventing your piglets from huddling too closely to your sow to keep warm.
Not sure whether piglet heating pads are the right choice over heat lamps? There are a few reasons why we recommend pads over lamps for the safety of your barn.
Benefits of Piglet Heating Pads Over Heating Bulbs
Operating cost is a huge benefit of pads over bulbs. A 1'x 1 4' pad will use almost 70% less energy than a traditional heat lamp.
Pig heat pads are much more water-resistant than heating bulbs, which can pose a danger to your animals as well as your staff if they come into contact with water. Additionally, our piglet heating pads are more energy-efficient than bulbs, which can save you money on energy bills in the long run.
Using piglet heating pads instead of heat lamps also allows you to provide heat directly to the piglets that need it to grow, instead of heating the air around them and hoping they receive the warmth they need. The latter is a much more inefficient way to keep your piglets warm and comfortable.
It’s also important to keep the risk of fire at the top of your mind. Piglet heating pads pose basically no risk of fire hazard, while heating lamps are at risk of overheating and causing fire or even hurting your animals. Plus, heat lamps are also at risk of breaking, posing a grave danger to any piglets or sows nearby.
Keeping Your Piglets Warm and Healthy the Right Way
In the past, farmers believed that piglets needed both warmth and light to grow properly. However, as research has expanded on the subject, new heat sources such as our piglet heating pads have been created. This upgraded technology better meets the needs of your piglets and sows without putting any of your animals or staff at risk with the dangerous glass parts used in heat lamps.
Risking your piglets’ health by not using a heat source to keep them warm can also be dangerous. When piglets have to snuggle up to their mother to keep warm in the winter, you run the risk of these vulnerable animals being accidentally crushed by your sow.
With the right piglet heating pad, you can ensure that your piglets grow at the proper rate and don’t risk injury to keep warm.

Why Use a Heat Pad for Your Pigs
Designed specifically to provide warmth and comfort during crucial life stages, such as farrowing and nursery times, these specialized heating mats mimic the natural warmth provided by a sow. Using these versatile and essential mats is a small investment that can significantly contribute to the health and productivity of growing swine. Let's delve into the key features, benefits, and reasons why pig farmers should consider adopting these heat mats.
Phases of Raising Pigs
1. The Farrowing Phase:
Farrowing, the process of a sow giving birth to piglets, demands careful attention to ensure the health of both the sow and her offspring. Farrowing crates provide a safe environment for this crucial stage. Osborne's farrowing mats create a warm and comfortable surface, encouraging piglets to nurse and maintain their body temperature, ultimately contributing to their vitality and overall health.
2. The Nursery Stage:
After farrowing, the nursery stage is pivotal for the piglets' development. Weaning from mother's milk and transitioning to solid food occurs during this period. Dedicated nursery facilities with nursery heat mats ensure a controlled environment that supports piglet growth and development as they transition from nursing to solid food.
The Health Benefits of Osborne's Stanfield Heat Mats
1. Body Warmth for Essential Growth:
Optimal temperatures are crucial for piglet health, and Osborne's heat mats prevent chilling by mimicking the sow's warmth. This controlled environment reduces stress, promoting healthier and more productive swine. Consistent warmth from nursery mats reduces stress in piglets, supporting proper digestion and nutrient absorption. This, in turn, leads to enhanced growth rates and overall robustness.
2. Safety and Comfort:
Osborne prioritizes safety with non-slip surfaces, minimizing the risk of injuries in farrowing areas. Comfortable resting areas reduce stress levels and promote better sleep for the pigs. The mats are also much safer from the dangers traditional heat lamps carry: fire. The exposed cords and hot lamps can create a dangerous environment not only for the piglets, but also for any other animal or human in the path of a destructive fire hazard.
3. Energy Efficiencies:
Engineered for energy efficiency, Osborne's mats heat only when necessary, optimizing energy consumption and reducing operational costs. This not only benefits the environment but also contributes to the sustainability of pig farming operations with lower electric bills!
Why Use a Heat Pad When Raising Pigs
Osborne's Stanfield Heat Mats utilize advanced technology, providing radiant warmth through high-quality materials. Some mats come with temperature control thermostats, allowing farmers to adjust settings based on piglet needs. This controlled and comfortable environment enhances the overall health, vitality, and growth of pigs, making Osborne's Stanfield heat mats indispensable for pig farmers aiming to optimize their operations.
They’re safe, economical, and contribute to the overall health and growth rate when raising pigs through the farrowing and nursery stages of life. It is an invaluable tool for pig farmers seeking to prioritize the health and well-being of their livestock while making a profit!
