Our raised wither profile accommodates even the sharpest of withers, and our customizable spine leather marries the contoured 100% Virgin Wool Felt for impeccable saddle fit. This saddle pad offers maximum protection for both horse and rider's backs during training and showing.

It pairs well with off-the-rack, semi-custom, and custom saddles and gives ideal shock absorption, positively influencing rider feel and saddle fit. This added shock absorption improves the horse's comfort in general, as well as the rider's equitation.

What is your recommendation for a small mutton withered horse, which requires a very wide saddle since the saddle immediately opens over the shoulders (not on the shoulders, but just behind them)..... and therefore the saddle easily slips when mounting from the ground. Any kind of saddle pad here can actually make a difference for that? My experience is that not much helps. I ride in an English all purpose. I prefer natural materials rather than "non slip" non absorbent synthetic pads.

It is difficult to fit the low withered, broad shouldered horses. For this particular instance, we would recommend the 3/4" thick Self-Contouring pad. Designed with a space in the middle so that no matter what wither height or back style this pad is placed on, it will contour to fit. The space in the back will close more or less depending on the back, but it will always conform to fit allowing cooling and air movement under an English Saddle. The bridge at the front and back of the space are reinforced with stylish leather pieces. All sizes are available in the Self-Contouring pads.

Hello. I ride limited distance endurance rides with my average distance of 18 miles in an all purpose saddle. I can ride as often as three to five times per week (not always 18 milers). What thickness would you recommend? And if available in that thickness, would you recommend the self contouring or contouring style? Thank you

We recommend the 7/8" contouring pad unless you and your saddle total more than 230 pounds, then we would recommend the 1" in the contoured pad.

I trail ride using an all-purpose English Saddle. What is the useful life expectancy of the all-purpose English saddle pad?

Hello, First, thank you for trusting 5 Star for your horse pad needs! This question has many variables that we have to take in to consider the life expectancy of your pad. The first being how thick is your pad? How often and how long are your trail rides? How rigorous are the rides your going on? We have many people tell us they have ridden in our pads for 10 years. This all depends on how well the pad is taken care of and if you have the correct pad for what you are doing. If you are riding in our 1/2" pad that is not enough padding for trail riding so this pad will not last you as long as our 3/4" or 7/8" pads that are design to handle the trail riding excursions.
