Please call or email for a quote with shipping The 8' long grid is made with (2), 8" c-channels underneath to carry the 16-ton per axle load to the foundation and ultimately the ground. The optional clean-out hinged sections make keeping the vaulted area clear a breeze and with the wings and posts, you can tie your fence-line to the guard so your animals can't step around the connection. This guard is available in 7.5' and 8' distances in the direction of travel and can be highway-rated with the HS-20 designation (16 tons per axle) which is typically required for use on US public roadways. This grid provides a smooth ride for vehicles due to its flat top-rail design while still providing an effective livestock barrier. It's available for delivery with precast concrete footings, wings, galvanizing, and even hinged clean-out sections! To make installation easier, there are precast concrete footings that be shipped with the steel grids that are designed to be set in place so you won't need to pour any cement on site. The foundations come with j-bolts already poured to fit so you'll have a rock-solid connection without the need for drilling or pouring. If you're looking for a different rating or style, see all of our cattle guards here! As you can see in the picture of the top of the grid below, the space between the top bars, or rails, creates a visual deterrent of depth, that most cows won't even test the cattle guard. If they do, the spacing creates such an uncomfortable physical balancing act for a flat hoof that livestock won't even attempt to put any weight on their leg when in contact with the small surface. Precast concrete footings can be delivered right with the cattle guard. They can be removed from the delivery vehicle and set directly on the ground. Once buried and in place, the guard can be bolted down to the j-bolts already set in the foundations. These connect to the pre-drilled holes in the guards themselves to prevent movement after installation. Select the concrete foundation option so you don't have to pour your own. It saves time, and money and is built specifically for the guard you have delivered. The optional wings are necessary to connect the cattle grid to your fence line so that your livestock can't simply walk around the end of the fence and bypass the 'Texas Gate'. It's easy to install and is made up of two pieces. One is the cattle guard wing itself which is the triangular section and the other is the post that holds the wing up at an angle and completes the attachment to the fence. See the picture below for a completed installation.
