Note: Due to the large size and weight, you must be able to provide a means of removing this large one-piece item from the delivery vehicle. The shipper will not be able to remove it from the trailer upon delivery. They are made to order and are not returnable or refundable. To prevent livestock from stepping around the grid and fence line connection, the steel triangle known as the wing is directly attached at ground level. The end of it is held up by the wing post and allows you to connect your fence to complete the barrier. See all of our cattle guard wings and foundations and a close up picture of the wing and post below: As a construction company, we've installed our fair share of cattle guards and made our own bases, but the precast foundations make it so much easier. The pre-made foundations made the installation process incredibly smooth. Instead of spending extra time and resources on-site to build the foundations from scratch and scheduling and then waiting on cement trucks, we were able to place the precast sections directly into position and get the installation done quickly and simply. The foundations have j-bolts set in them so they mate with the holes in the guard to prevent moving around. The measurements were spot on, which allowed us to complete the project without any unexpected adjustments or delays. Our client was thrilled with the result, and we were equally impressed with how straightforward the entire process was. If you're looking for a cattle guard that's built to last and foundations that simplify the installation process, this product is an excellent choice. We highly recommend it and will be using these in future projects. Jim B. J&J

Precast Concrete Foundations for Cattle Guard Installations
Another nice feature of this design is the ability to have the matching concrete footings delivered directly to the site. No need to create your forms and pour cement to create your foundations. These are precast and include mounting pins, which are j-bolts already set into the foundations that match up to secure the steel grid directly to the footing. This prevents any 'walking' or movement once in place for a solid and secure crossing.
The load-carrying of these large guards is done with (5) I-beams and (2) C-channels underneath for the required 16-ton/axle capacity required by the DOT for public roadway projects. The guards are powder-coated and have optional hinged clean-out sections, precast footings, and wings to contain the herd where the fence line meets up with the grate itself.
An HS-20-rated cattle guard is engineered to carry a load of 16 tons per axle and is the standard public road project highway rating required by the DOT. These cattle guards are 12' long and will give vehicles a smooth ride while keeping livestock from crossing. Optional wings and precast foundations make this the ultimate cattle grid!
The top rails of the grid are what provide both a visual and physical deterrent to livestock. They can see through the rails and down into the vaulted area below which causes depth perception visual clues that it's not safe to cross. The narrow rails then cause physical challenges and create a barrier that most won't and don't want to try to cross!
