The foundations have J-bolts set in them so attaching the steel for a secure crossing is easy and straightforward - no drilling or pouring in the field! These flat-top rail guards are available to ship with custom, pre-fit footings! They can be unloaded directly onto the ground and come complete with installed J-bolts for mounting. The guard has pre-drilled holes in the bottom to match directly to the bolts. They provide a secure connection and eliminate any movement over the years. Cattle guard wings complete the connection from the grid to the fence line. Without them, cows could simply step around where the fence post terminates the line at the crossing and bypass the deterrent altogether. The 10' guards use (2) - 8" c-channels for transferring weight to the ground and are rated at 16 tons per axle with an additional 30% 'safety factor' built-in. The rating is what's required by the DOT for public highway projects and the flat top surface of the rails provides a smoother vehicle crossing than the traditional round rail cattle guard design.
