The Y cincha works very well for mules as well as horses.
Horse Y Cinches
100% Mohair Cinch. This unique combination front and back cincha does not put any pressure on the back of the rib cage and stomach barrel. When a standard back cinch is tightened enough to hold the back of the saddle in place, it constricts the horses ability to expand it’s rib cage when breathing deeply. The Y cincha brings all the pressure forward to where the front cinch already is. Thus, the back of the saddle is stabilized with no pressure on the rib cage or stomach barrel. This can be the key to finding that extra edge for riding performance!
An optional 6″ horsehair shufly can be added if you desire.

The roper cinch spreads the psi (pounds per square inch) over more area, thus reducing the pressure and increasing comfort and stability.
Mule Y Cinches
If your mule is built so that the cinch has a tendency to ride fairly far forward, you may want the traditional Y-cinch and not the added width of the roper cinch. There is no "correct" style for mules, it just depends on your preference and your mules' conformation. The saddle and pad type can also have major effects on the reason for the saddle sliding forward and we recommend a combination of the 5 Star wool felt pad and Y cinch can certainly help the sliding issue. Order the same size as your normal cinch.
