The Q&A on this Product
QUESTION:  Whats the difference between the lese expensive saddle pads that you have ?
ANSWER:  The difference is thickness, length, length and color. Cost of a 30"x30" is less that a 32"x32" full skirt. And this changes some also when you change thicknesses. Thank you, Mike
QUESTION:  I have a high, thin withered TWH with a prominent bony spine. I currently have a Steele Saddle which seems to be making him sore at his withers and he also seems to having trouble maintaing his gait. I talked with a saddle company that said I needed to sell my saddle and buy theirs but even then I would need to have a good saddle pad to get the saddle off his withers. Which one would you recommend, and it seems to me if I need to buy a good pad for a new saddle then maybe a good pad would help with the saddle I already have. Also I trail ride about 4-6 hours at a time, 2 x weekly, weighing about 155 lbs, saddle weighs approximately 30-35 pounds. Thanks Pam
ANSWER:   Hi Pam: Thank you for the contact. Most of the time when you have any type of soring it is usally the saddle and the incorrect type of padding material exerbates the problem. These are great pads, the best on the market, but it would only correct the problem temporarly. Eventually, the saddle would put enough pressure in area of soring and cause some kind of irritation. I have worked with a number of gaited horses and unless you have a custom tree built for your a 3/4 inch pad is too thin. We have had best luck with a 1" pad for trail riding. The Steel Saddle is a good saddle, tree just doesn't fit. If you can jep a photo the area to www.fivestarmarketing@alltel.net they can help you sort through your concerns and give you padding and saddle suggestion. They do not sell saddles so you will recieve unbiased information. Thank you.
QUESTION:  Hi, I am wondering if I need to get the 3/4 or 7/8 pad. I like to use a pad over a felt pad. I usually trail ride and ride at home. Thanks, Karen
ANSWER:  Hi Karen! First I'd like to address using two pads. That is something that we don't recommend with our pad since it is contoured to fit your horses back, thereby reducing the need for tight cinching, and helps to keep your saddle in place with minimal cinching. Using another pad on top takes away from the contoured pads ability to keep things in place with minimal cinching. Double padding also creates the scenario for adding slipping and friction: kind of like putting on two socks and then putting your shoes on. We recommend buying one pad the correct thickness for your situation. There are three things to consider: 1. How well your saddle fits. 2. How much you and your gear weigh. 3. What kind of riding you do and how long at a time that you spend in the saddle. If your saddle fits well, you and your gear don't weigh over approx. 225 pounds, and you don't spend 8 hours a day up and down the mountains, then the 7/8" pad is a real good all around using pad. It's the one I personally use. If your saddle fit is questionable, the poundage is up there, or you ride hard, then we recommend going to the 1" pad. It is the ultimate protection for your animals back. If you decide that you want to use another pad with ours, then, depending on the thickness of your second pad, the 3/4" pad is likely thick enough. Thank you for your interest in the fine 5 Star saddle pad! God Bless! Laurel Easton
