| QUESTION: Will it protect the horses back like the impact gel will? Or the professionals choice esv pads? |
| ANSWER: Impact gel pads will bottom out. Meaning that if you have any kind of problem with your saddle tree the gel will push away from the pressure point. And when it comes to impact - wool felt will do exactly the same as gel. Plus gel will not wick and traps heat and will eventually push to the back of the pad if hung in a hot barn or trailer as the gel is in a plactic bladder.
Pro choice esv pads are synthetic, trap heat, not UV resistant and have poor compression protection.
In fact based on manufacturer specifications both pads only have a 2psi rating and the 5 Star felt has a 6 psi rating.

| QUESTION: I am considering buying this pad and currently use a Sharon barrel saddle, I will be starting barrels this summer however the majority of my riding is trails - do you suggest the barrel pad or the regular size? |
| ANSWER: When you trail ride, do you put saddle bags or a cantle pack behind your saddle? And if you do, do you want saddle pad between it and your horse? To know what length of saddle pad you need, measure your saddle skirts from nose to tail. Take that measurement and add 2"-4", depending on how much pad you like showing around your saddle. Eg., saddle skirt measures 26", you like 2" showing around the skirts of your saddle. So, 26" + 4"(2" for front, 2" for back) = 30", which is the size of our standard pad. Our barrel pad measures 28", standard size is 30", and our full skirt size is 32".
